Mothusi pulls real-time commodity prices from SAFEX (South African Futures Exchange) for grains and oilseeds, and NAMC (National Agricultural Marketing Council) fresh produce market data for fruits and vegetables. When you list produce, Mothusi shows you the current spot price, regional averages (e.g., NW Province delivered Randfontein), and historical price trends for the past 30 days. It suggests a competitive listing price based on your location, quality grade, and volume — so you never sell below market value.

Every buyer on the Mothusi marketplace goes through a verification process: CIPC company registration check, BEE certificate validation, trade references from previous transactions, and physical address confirmation. Buyers are categorised by type — millers, silos, feed lots, abattoirs, cooperatives, commodity traders, and processors — so you know exactly who you're selling to. Mothusi also tracks buyer reliability scores based on payment history, collection punctuality, and dispute rates.

Mothusi facilitates the connection between farmer and buyer but does not process payments directly. Once a buyer confirms interest and agrees on price, Mothusi generates the required documentation — delivery notes, weighbridge instructions, and quality certificates. Payment terms are agreed between you and the buyer (typically 7-14 days after delivery for grain, cash on collection for livestock). Mothusi tracks payment status and sends reminders to buyers with outstanding balances.
